Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman said the two charges could net Nick Reiner a maximum sentence of life in prison without parole or the death penalty.

on Tuesday (16/12) morning, will be formally filed on Tuesday afternoon, including charges of using a knife as a means of murder.
“Prosecuting cases involving family members are some of the most challenging and heartbreaking cases this office has faced because of the intimate and often brutal nature of the crimes,” Hochman said at a news conference.
The charges include the “special circumstances” of multiple murder, making the crime potentially eligible for the death penalty.

The District Attorney’s Office will make a decision on whether or not to pursue the death penalty against Nick Reiner.Hochman, elected last year, has revived the death penalty in Los Angeles County, reversing a moratorium adopted by his predecessor, George Gascón.
However, California has suspended all executions since 2019.
The 32-year-old man was arrested on Sunday (14/12) evening and detained on suspicion of murder on Monday (15/12) morning.He is being held without bail at Twin Towers Correctional Institution in Los Angeles.
Nick Reiner was arrested without incident near the USC campus in the Exposition Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, which is about 12 miles from Brentwood, LAPD officials said.
He was expected to appear in court for the first time on Tuesday (16/12) but was not taken from prison.His lawyer, Alan Jackson, said he was not “medically cleared” to go to trial.

Rob and Michele Reiner were found dead inside their home Sunday afternoon around 3:40 p.m.They were reported to have been stabbed to death.The Los Angeles Police Department said at the time that their deaths were being investigated as homicides.
Nick Reiner has previously discussed his struggles with addiction and homelessness and co-wrote the 2015 film “Being Charlie,” directed by Rob, about his experiences.
