“Tjen, the second seed in the tournament, requested time for rest and medical early in the first set against Mananchaya Sawangkaew of Thailand. The WTA world No. 54 managed to equalize at 4-4 after a lackluster performance early in the match, but was unable to maintain her form as she struggled even in her serve game,” wrote Media Philippines

.
“Sawangkaew finally won the first set with a score of 6-4, and moments before the second set started, Tjen’s side confirmed that he had withdrawn from the match. It was then confirmed that Tjen was experiencing breathing problems,” wrote One Sports.
As a result, host representative Mananchaya Sawangkaew has the right to advance to the women’s tennis singles final at the 2025 SEA Games.
Thus, Janice Tjen’s hopes of winning a gold medal in the women’s singles event at the 2025 SEA Games were dashed.
Even so, previously Janice Tjen had won a gold medal in the women’s team tennis team event at the 2025 SEA Games on Saturday (13/12).
At that time, Janice managed to contribute winning points for Indonesia by playing in the women’s singles and women’s doubles sessions partnering Aldila Sutjiadi.
Indonesia is now in second place in the 2025 SEA Games medal standings with 58 gold medals.
