Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni mentioned the President
Prabowo Subianto
granting the entire forest product processing business (PBPH) permit area for the elephant corridor in
Aceh
.
“He actually gave 20,000 hectares. In fact, the entire PBPH concession was handed over to build an elephant corridor which is now standing and we are working on it together with WWF,” said Raja Juli at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Monday (15/12).
Raja Juli believes this is Prabowo’s concrete effort to care for the environment in Indonesia. He said this step was proof of Prabowo’s concern for forests and animals which was not just a statement.

“And yesterday I was again ordered to be braver in curbing naughty PBPH, which disturb the community and also disturb the environment and our forests,” he said.
Raja Juli said that in the last year, the Ministry of Forestry has regulated 1.5 million hectares of rogue PBPH in the last year.
Most recently, he said he had revoked 22 PBPHs belonging to rogue companies with an area of 1,012,016 hectares.Of the entire area, 116,198 hectares are on Sumatra Island.
Apart from that, he said that Prabowo also ordered the Ministry of Forestry to double the number of forestry police personnel. He said the addition of forest police personnel was to suppress illegal logging practices which have been destroying Indonesia’s forests.
“For Aceh, which has a forest area of 3.5 million hectares, we only have 30 forest rangers, 32 people. This is completely unreasonable and the President immediately asked me to double the number of our forest rangers,” he said.
