Kramat Jati Main Market
, Jalan Raya Bogor, Kampung Tengah Subdistrict, Kramat Jati District, East Jakarta Monday (15/12) morning, allegedly due to an electrical short circuit from a plastic shop.
“It was originally a plastic shop near there, a plastic shop had a short circuit. I heard an explosion, my car was parked and unloaded, I was sitting in the stall,” said one of the truck drivers at Kramat Jati Main Market, Ridwan in East Jakarta, Monday (15/12).
Ridwan said that the large number of flammable materials caused the fire to quickly grow and spread to several other shops.

The traders looked panicked and immediately saved some of their merchandise.
“The fire spread really quickly, in a matter of minutes, because of the wind, and lots of wood and plastic,” said Ridwan.
Head of Operations for the East Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue (Gulkarmat) Sub-Department, Abdul Wahid said that his party received a fire report from the public via telephone at around 07.24 WIB.
Firefighters arrived at the location at 07.28 WIB and immediately started extinguishing operations one minute later, precisely at 07.29 WIB.
In initial handling, the East Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-Department deployed 16 fire engines with the support of 80 personnel.
Thick black smoke was reported to be rising high from the market area.The flames were seen consuming the semi-permanent stall building, specifically the fruit stall.
It is thought that the wooden material piled up in front of the stall made the fire spread quickly and was difficult to control.A number of traders were seen running away from the location immediately after the sound of the explosion was heard.
Panic also appeared to be enveloping the market area, while police officers asked residents and traders to stay away from the fire spot for the sake of safety and a smooth extinguishing process.
Firefighters are currently still in the process of extinguishing the fire at the Kramat Jati Main Market.
