visited Kupiansk City in Kharkiv Oblast, which was claimed to have been recaptured

In a video uploaded to his social media on Friday (12/12), Zelensky showed off the moment he stood in front of the entrance to Kupiansk, which Russia said it had successfully annexed last November.

While wearing a bulletproof vest, Zelensky praised the Ukrainian military for successfully seizing the city’s front lines.

Last November, Russian forces declared that Kupiansk was now under Moscow’s full control.However, Ukraine denied this and stated that fighting to protect the city was still continuing.
According to the Khartiia Corps of the Ukrainian National Guard, a number of districts north of Kupiansk have been liberated.
The Khartian Corps said Russian supply lines there had been cut and hundreds of Kremlin troops were now under Ukrainian siege.
“Today, we can state that Russian troops in this city have been completely isolated. For a long time, they did not understand what was happening. However, now they know that they are surrounded,” Khartiia commander Ihor Obolienskyi was quoted as saying by the news agency.

Based on Ukraine’s Deep State battlefield map, at least three villages north and west of Kupiansk are currently under Kyiv’s control.
Districts north of Kupiansk also appear to be under Ukrainian control.There were also signs that Russian troops were surrounded in the city center.
Reuters has so far been unable to independently verify this report.
Russia meanwhile has not yet commented on the Ukrainian troops’ statement.
