Two soldiers

and a civilian translator were killed in an attack by a gunman on a joint US-
Syria
in Palmyra, central Syria, Saturday (13/12).
US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that the perpetrator was believed to be a member of the ISIS terrorist group but acted alone.CENTCOM is one of the US military command centers that focuses on overseeing Uncle Sam’s military operations in the Middle East.

“Two US military personnel and one US civilian were killed, and three military personnel were injured, as a result of an ambush by an ISIS lone gunman in Syria. The perpetrator was neutralized and killed,” CENTCOM said in a statement as quoted

.
The ambush reportedly took place while Syrian soldiers and security forces were “holding meetings with local leaders”.The US Department of Defense or Pentagon is still investigating this attack.
A Pentagon official said initial assessments showed the attack was “most likely” carried out by the ISIS group
Meanwhile, the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the perpetrator was a member of the Syrian security forces.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for this incident.The identity of the perpetrator has also not been revealed.
A Pentagon official said the attack occurred “in territory not under the control of the Syrian president.”
Meanwhile, in a post on X, Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al Shaibani condemned the attack and offered his condolences to the families of the victims.
This attack occurred when Syria was trying to restore the civilian government led by President Ahmad Al Sharaa after successfully overthrowing the regime of Bashar Al Assad and ending the civil war for the last 13 years.
Recently, the US also began to open up again with Syria, removing the name Al Sharaa from the terrorist list.
