Those who evacuated now face the threat of floods that submerge their tents and shelters due to heavy rain.
This warning was conveyed by the UN International Organization for Migration (IOM) on Friday (12/12), regarding important materials for building shelters and sandbags not being allowed into the Gaza area.

According to the Hamas-run Gaza government media office, a total of 12 people were killed or missing as a result of the storm, with at least 13 buildings collapsing and 27,000 tents being flooded.
IOM states that nearly 795,000 Gaza refugees are at high risk of potentially dangerous flooding. They live in low-lying areas full of rubble, with unsafe shelters.
The UN agency added that inadequate drainage systems and waste management also increase the risk of disease outbreaks among refugees.
IOM said materials to strengthen shelters such as wood and plywood, as well as sandbags and water pumps to help deal with flooding, were blocked from entering Gaza due to access restrictions from Israel.
Israel insists it is fulfilling its obligations and accuses aid agencies of inefficiency and failing to prevent theft by Hamas, accusations the Palestinian militant group denies.
COGAT, the Israeli military agency that oversees humanitarian issues, said Israel had approved 100,000 pallet requests submitted by various organizations for winter goods, shelter equipment and sanitation supplies over the past three months.
“Over the past few months, COGAT coordinated with the international community and facilitated the transfer of nearly 270,000 tents and tarpaulins directly to residents of the Gaza Strip,” COGAT said in a statement, as reported

Sad Stories in Gaza Refugee Camps
In a refugee camp in Nuseirat, central Gaza, ankle-deep water flooded tents, soaking mattresses, shoes and clothes.
Youssef Tawtah, 50, tried hard to draw water with a bucket, but the water had nowhere to go and his efforts seemed in vain.”All night the kids and I were on our feet,” he said.”How are the kids going to handle it?”
As his family gathered around a small campfire on a sandbar near the tent, he dragged a soaking mattress through the floodwaters.Even cooking food would be difficult.”Our food is ruined,” he complained.
IOM added that supplies already sent to Gaza, including waterproof tents, thermal blankets and tarpaulins, were unable to withstand the brunt of the flooding.
“After this storm made landfall yesterday, families tried to protect their children with whatever they had,” said IOM Director General Amy Pope.
Although a ceasefire has largely held since last October, the conflict has destroyed much of Gaza’s infrastructure, making living conditions dire. The UN and Palestinian officials say at least 300,000 new tents are urgently needed for the estimated 1.5 million people still displaced.
The World Health Organization (WHO) reports more than 4,000 people live in coastal areas considered high risk, with 1,000 people directly affected by high waves from the sea.
WHO warns of health risks from pollution.”Thousands of families are taking shelter in these low-lying, rubble-strewn coastal areas without drainage or protective barriers, with piles of rubbish everywhere along the roads,” said WHO representative Rik Peeperkorn.
