A pungent odor wafted into the health center service room. The distance between the pile of rubbish and the service room is only about 30 meters.
A number of patients who wanted to seek treatment also felt uncomfortable with the smell from the pile of rubbish.
Anisa, one of the patients, said that the smell of rubbish reached the community health center. He asked the Tangsel City Government to immediately transport the rubbish.
“In the puskesmas it should be healthy, the smell is fresher, how come it smells like rubbish? It has to be cleaned, so that the aroma doesn’t get too strong into the puskesmas,” he said.
Meanwhile, the manager of the Serpong 1 Community Health Center building, Dayat (54) said that the pile of rubbish had been visible for the last 5 days.
“The trash is from last Sunday, which means it’s been five days,” he said.
He suspects that the pile of rubbish is getting worse because of the closure of the Cipeucang landfill which is being repaired.
“Even though for the last 6 years the area has often been used as a place to dump rubbish, only this morning around 6 o’clock it has been hauled away. But for the past five days the rubbish has just been left there,” said Dayat.
Dayat hopes that the Serpong 1 Community Health Center can take action in the form of a notification letter or warning letter to the South Tangerang Environmental Service (DLH).
“This puskesmas should have written to DLH, telling them not to pile up rubbish there anymore. Because it’s very disturbing for health facilities to become rubbish dumps,” he said.
