“Let’s face it, it’s illegal. At least, formally there is no policy in that direction. I even discussed it with the President (Prabowo Subianto), he said not yet,” continued Purbaya denying the plan to distribute illegally imported clothes to disaster victims.
Purbaya does not rule out the possibility of changes to the rules. However, he emphasized that up to now there has been no specific direction from Prabowo to distribute these illegal clothes.
The State Treasurer then asked who was the party who made the statement that was not in line with him.The figure turned out to be the Director of Communications and User Guidance for Customs Services, Nirwala Dwi Heryanto.
“Who said (illegal clothes were donated to disaster victims)? I’m the minister, he (Nirwala) is not a minister! Don’t let that happen because of that, many more presidential candidates come in with good reasons for disasters,” said Purbaya.
According to Purbaya, it is better to buy domestic goods, especially MSME products, to send to disaster victims.
“I’d rather spend money there if I have to than use those balpres items,” he continued.
Likewise, the Director General of Customs and Excise, Djaka Budhi Utama, emphasized that so far there are no regulations that allow the government to distribute illegal clothing to disaster victims.
Meanwhile, the Director of Communications and User Guidance for Customs and Excise Services, Nirwala Dwi Heryanto, said that the follow-up action against illegally imported clothing was divided into three options. The three are destroying goods, giving away goods for a specific purpose, or auctioning off illegal goods.
The follow-up decision is in the hands of the Directorate General of State Assets (DJKN) of the Ministry of Finance.
“That (was given to victims of the Sumatran disaster) which could later be one of them. Because if it complies with the provisions, the goods resulting from the action will become state property,” said Nirwala after a press conference at the Customs Headquarters, East Jakarta, Thursday (11/12) yesterday.
