speak up about ideas
Pandawara Group
which invites communities to jointly buy forests to prevent their conversion into oil palm plantations or industrial land.
Alex explained that according to regulations, forests cannot be bought and sold. However, he considered the idea to be good and could be used as a community movement to protect and care for forests.

He said that the community could later form movements to rehabilitate forests, or provide forest monitoring technology, even on a small scale.
“For example, for forest rehabilitation and providing technology that can detect forest clearing even on a small scale,” he said.
The prohibition on buying and selling forests is contained in Law Number 41 of 1999. Article 50 prohibits anyone from working on, using or occupying forest areas illegally.Meanwhile, Article 4 Paragraph 1 states that all forests are property and are controlled by the state.
Alex said each event basically sparked an idea to find a solution. However, quite a few of these ideas are only at the conceptual level.
According to Alex, the Pandawara’s idea to buy the forest came from good intentions. This idea should be an alarm for the government to adopt policies that are pro-environmental sustainability.
“The idea of mutual cooperation in purchasing forests stems from good intentions, this movement should trigger the government to evaluate and improve policies to protect forests as a source of life,” he said.
Pandawara, which is a group of young environmental activists from Bandung, invites the Indonesian people to jointly buy forests that are threatened with being converted into oil palm plantations or industrial land.
This idea was put forward via an Instagram post right in the middle of the flash flood and landslide disaster in Sumatra which was linked to massive deforestation. The upload also includes ‘Yu ah first ceban’ via the donation link in the account biography.
“I was daydreaming, suddenly I thought about what if the United Indonesian Community donated to buy forests so they wouldn’t be converted,” wrote Pandawara via his Instagram account @pandawaragroup, Thursday (4/12).
This proposal immediately went viral and received a flood of public support, one of which was the readiness to contribute IDR 1 billion from musician Denny Caknan.
