This started when Purbaya suddenly coughed while explaining the reasons for implementing the gold export duty.In fact, previously there was no such levy for gold exports.
“The gold export duty policy is implemented with the principle that the tariff on upstream products is higher than downstream products (suddenly coughing and drinking). Maybe gold producers are cursing me from afar and want to charge this duty,” said Purbaya, laughing, Monday (8/12).

Purbaya said the customs policy was carried out to support the effectiveness of gold export supervision.Where, gold with a grade below 99 percent cannot be exported.
“Supervision on gold exports is strengthened through provisions that prohibit the export of gold products with a grade below 99 percent (cough again). Their prayers are strong too,” he continued.
In this case, Purbaya explained that there were two reasons for withdrawing gold export duties.
First,
to guarantee the supply of gold for the creation of added value and deepening the financial sector (bullion bank).
Second,
The implementation of export duties on gold exports also supports the optimization of export supervision, good governance for the Indonesian gold ecosystem and strengthening the fiscal space of the APBN through increasing state revenues.
“Therefore, a fiscal instrument in the form of export duties is needed to support the availability of gold supply in Indonesia,” said Purbaya.
