He said this condition is very dangerous for motorists because the water level at several vulnerable points has increased drastically and the water current tends to be strong.
“We ask people who don’t have urgent needs to postpone their journey, especially on the main route connecting Pidie Jaya to Bireuen, or vice versa. The heavy rain that has fallen since this afternoon has caused the floodwaters to rise again, covering the road, and this is very risky,” said Murthalamuddin, Sunday (7/12).
He is also concerned about the possibility of repeating serious traffic jams or accidents if vehicles force their way through puddles of water, especially at night or early in the morning.
His party will coordinate with related agencies to monitor water levels periodically and install warning signs at the worst affected points.
“Our officers remain on alert. We will provide an update on the situation as soon as possible. For now, the priority is safety, so don’t take any risks,” he said.
Previously, Pidie Jaya Regency was one of the areas worst hit by floods and landslides that occurred last week.
The BPBD team continues to monitor developments in flood conditions at a number of points.Teams in the field are also alerted to carry out evacuations if there is a significant increase in water discharge.
Apart from that, the BPBD team together with elements of the TNI, Polri and sub-district government continue to urge the public to remain alert, especially those living in areas prone to inundation.Residents are asked to immediately move to a safer place if the water rises again
