Head of the Information Center (Kapuspen) of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Benni Irwan, said that his party had confirmed the news to the South Aceh Regency Government.He admitted that he was surprised and disappointed that Mirwan decided to go for Umrah when Aceh was affected by floods and landslides.
“As a result of the confirmation, we received data that he (South Aceh Regent Mirwan MS) carried out the Umrah 2-12 December (2025),” said Benni to hitclubapk3Indonesia.com by telephone, Saturday (6/12).

Benni said that Mirwan had indeed applied for permission or leave for Umrah to the Governor of Aceh Muzakir Manaf alias Mualem.However, Mirwan did not get his blessing because Aceh was facing a disaster.
Therefore, the permit application did not reach the Ministry of Home Affairs because it had been rejected by the Governor of Aceh Mualem.
“If the regional head wants to leave the country, he must have permission. Conditions like this can be said to mean that the Regent of South Aceh (Mirwan MS) is carrying out the Umrah pilgrimage without permission,” said Benni.
“The presence of the regional head in the midst of the community is very much hoped for, much awaited. That’s why the Ministry of Home Affairs is disappointed (to hear that the Regent of South Aceh, Mirwan MS, went on Umrah during the disaster),” he added.
The Ministry of Home Affairs emphasized that it would examine and impose sanctions on those concerned, in accordance with statutory regulations.Benni cannot yet specify what sanctions will be imposed on Mirwan because he still has to go through the examination process.
He said that the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian had ordered South Aceh Regent Mirwan MS to immediately return to Indonesia, no need to wait for the Umrah to finish on December 12 2025. After Mirwan arrives in Aceh, the Ministry of Home Affairs will immediately carry out an inspection.
“The Ministry of Home Affairs team has flown to Aceh. We hope that when he (Mirwan MS) comes home, we will immediately check him. So, we have an inspection because he left South Aceh. (Inspection and sanctions) are in accordance with applicable regulations,” he concluded.
