“I am
surprise
(surprised), I didn’t expect it to be this big.I didn’t expect it to be this big.I apologize, Mr Regent.”That doesn’t mean we don’t care,” said Suharyanto in a press conference, Monday (1/12).
He ensured that all efforts to deal with the post-flash flood disaster would continue to be carried out by the government, including fulfilling logistics.
Previously, BNPB explained why the flood and landslide disasters that occurred in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra had not been designated as national disasters.
Suharyanto said that the tense conditions were visible on social media, but this was not the case with the current conditions in the field.
Suharyanto explained that so far the disasters in Indonesia that have been designated as national disasters are the Covid-19 pandemic and the 2004 Aceh Tsunami.
He requested that a comparison be made between the two national disasters and several other disasters that have occurred.
Then, said Suharyanto, the non-determination of a national disaster was also based on considerations of the scale of victims and access to the disaster location.
“Perhaps from the scale of the victims, then also the difficulty of access, media colleagues can just compare it with the current incident. Indeed, yesterday it seemed tense, right, you were milling about on social media, you couldn’t meet anything. But when you got here now, media colleagues were present at the location and it wasn’t raining,” said Suharyanto.
