Medical rescue mission in
Mount Kilimanjaro
, the highest peak in Africa, has a heartbreaking ending.An evacuation helicopter crashed while trying to pick up a sick climber.

Kilimanjaro Regional Police Commander, Simon Maigwa, confirmed that the deadly incident occurred in the middle of this week on one of the most popular climbing routes for tourists.

The helicopter was on its way to evacuate patients who were climbing through the Boby Camping tour company.
The police said there were no survivors in the accident.The five victims who died consisted of various backgrounds, namely: two foreign nationals (evacuated patients), one local doctor (part of the rescue team).
There was also a tour guide and a helicopter pilot who died in the accident
The helicopter crashed in the high altitude zone, precisely between Barafu Camp and Kibo Peak, at an altitude of more than 4,000 meters (13,100 feet) above sea level.
This route is one of the final climbing routes to the main peak of Kilimanjaro which stands at 5,895 meters high.
It is known that the helicopter belongs to the Kilimanjaro Aviation company, a provider of air medical evacuation services.Until now, the company has not provided an official statement regarding the accident.
The Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) on Thursday (25/12) stated that an investigation had been initiated in accordance with international safety regulations.A team of experts will try to determine the exact circumstances and causes of the plane crash.
Mount Kilimanjaro relies heavily on helicopter evacuations to rescue climbers who suffer from altitude sickness or are injured while climbing.
However, the area is known to have tough challenges for aviation, including thin air at extreme altitudes and rapidly changing weather conditions.
Plane accidents on Kilimanjaro are considered very rare.The last major incident was recorded in November 2008, which killed four people.
