“A total of around 350 kiosks burned down,” said Perumda Pasar Jaya main director Agus Himawan at Kramat Jati Main Market, East Jakarta, Monday.
Agus said the fire was reported to have started at around 07.15 WIB and burned down hundreds of stalls in the Los Buah Block C2 area.The fire occurred in the fruit shop area and caused panic among traders.

Thanks to the alertness of firefighters and the market’s internal security system, the fire was controlled in less than an hour.
“This morning, at 07.15 WIB, a fire broke out at the Main Market, especially at Fruit Shop C2. Thank God, the fire was successfully extinguished at 08.00 WIB and currently the fire service is still carrying out the cooling process,” explained Agus.
Until now, firefighters are still cooling the location to ensure there is no potential for the fire to re-ignite.
A total of 95 personnel from the East Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue (Gulkarmat) Sub-Department were deployed to extinguish the fire that broke out at the Kramat Jati Main Market.
“We deployed a total of 19 fire engines and 95 East Jakarta Gulkarmat personnel to extinguish the fire,” said Head of the East Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue (Gulkarmat) Operations Section, Abdul Wahid.
Abdul said the fire report was received at 07.24 WIB from residents who came straight to report it.Officers moved quickly and arrived at the location four minutes after the report was received.
“Our officers arrived at the location at 07.28 WIB and immediately started extinguishing it at 07.29 WIB,” said Abdul.
Abdul explained that the 19 fire engines consisted of 16 units from East Jakarta, two units assisted by the department, and one additional unit from the South Jakarta area.
All units are supported by joint personnel who focus on extinguishing, securing the area, and controlling it so that the fire does not spread to other kiosks.
The cooling process began at 08.20 WIB and involved a number of personnel combing the affected kiosk areas, including the roof and between the market buildings.Officers also decomposed the burning material to speed up the cooling process.
