Execution of the demolition of the Tongkonan Ka’pun house located in Ratte Kurra Village, Kurra District, Tana Toraja Regency,
South Sulawesi
, held last Friday (5/12).The execution, which was claimed to be carried out based on a court ruling, involved joint security forces.
A total of 6 rice barns (alang), 3 tongkonan, and 2 semi-permanent houses were the objects of execution.One of the tongkonans that was torn down is said to be more than 300 years old and is a symbol of the history of the extended Tongkonan Ka’pun family.
During the execution process, Tongkonan Ka’pun’s family protested and obstructed the execution process.

“There was resistance but it could be overcome,” said Tana Toraja Police Operations Head AKP Yulianus Tedang, quoting

Yulianus denied information circulating that residents were injured due to the use of rubber bullets.He emphasized that security was carried out in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
“There was no use of weapons. We used existing SOP procedures,” he said.
According to him, the issue of residents being injured due to the use of weapons by officers was spread by irresponsible parties.He ensured that no weapons were used by the officers during security.
Meanwhile, the use of tear gas during the execution, he said, was still in accordance with the security SOP.He said tear gas is also not dangerous.
“There is tear gas and it is standard and does not damage health,” he said.
Previously, many people defended the existence of this Toraja house, which was said to be 3 centuries old.Residents who opposed were attacked by officers and threw tear gas at them.
A number of netizens also highlighted the issue of dozens of residents injured by rubber bullets and expired tear gas.They criticized the local government and the traditional Tana Toraja DPRD for not caring about tongkonan and cultural sites.
