An anomaly occurred in
SEA Games 2025
.One of the Cambodian athletes managed to qualify for the final without competing in the sport of taekwondo.
This strange situation occurred in the women’s taekwondo branch in the 62-67kg class which took place on Thursday (11/12).
As reported
Soha
, the women’s taekwondo event in the 62-67kg class was only attended by three athletes from Thailand, Myanmar and Cambodia. The results of the draw placed the Cambodian athlete, Vann Borey, with a bye or automatic qualification to the final.Meanwhile, the other two opponents must compete in the semifinals.

In the semifinals, Thai athlete Chareewan Piyachutrutai easily beat Myanmar representative Thwe Mon Lin 2-0.This victory sent Chareewan through to the final.
Chareewan still entered the mat even without the presence of Van Borey, who was forced to be absent because the Cambodian delegation suddenly withdrew all its athletes from the 33rd SEA Games.
The jury decided that Chareewan won and was entitled to a gold medal without having to compete.A top medal that is easily achieved under unusual circumstances.
The lack of competition in the women’s 62-67kg keas is no different because of the regulations implemented.Thailand as the host can register all its athletes to appear in all numbers in martial arts sports.
Meanwhile, other countries are only allowed to participate in five sports in each men’s and women’s weight category. In total there are 10 of 14 weight categories for martial arts sports.
This rule resulted in only three participants in the women’s 62-67kg category being involved.Meanwhile, the other weight categories will start competition from the quarter-finals.
According to the 2025 SEA Games regulations, each sport can be held if there are a minimum of three participating countries involved. However, Cambodia’s withdrawal in the middle of the championship meant that Thailand won the gold medal without a sweat in the final.
