Alexander Isak suffered a broken leg after being tackled by Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven in the Premier League match last weekend.
As a result of this injury, Isak will reportedly be absent for the remainder of this season. Therefore, it is hoped that coach Arne Slot can take advantage of the January transfer market to find a replacement for Isak.

After losing Isak, Liverpool practically only had Hugo Ekitike as their mainstay on the front line.Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah is playing in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and Cody Gakpo is still recovering from injury.

, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher said two players could help Slot as a replacement for Isak.
“I think it’s pretty certain now Salah will stay at Liverpool when he returns from the Africa Cup of Nations. People do want that to happen and we talked about it last week,” said Carragher.
“I think Harvey Elliott’s situation at Aston Villa, he will probably return to the club because he struggled at Aston Villa. There has been big talk for a long time that Liverpool are interested in [Antoine] Semenyo,” added Carragher.
In Carragher’s eyes, even though Elliott and Semenyo are wingers, they are both skilled at playing as center forwards like Isak. This ability is considered to make these two players worthy of the Reds’ attention.
“Both can play as a centre-forward and I think Liverpool would probably go in that direction [in the transfer market] rather than looking for a centre-forward or buying someone they don’t really like,” Carragher said.
Carragher said Liverpool’s current situation was similar to several years ago where they had a defender crisis. At that time, the solution taken was to recruit players who could help Liverpool until the season finished.
“Liverpool will probably find a striker to do that, but I don’t think they will spend a lot of money on someone they don’t really like at the moment,” said Carragher.
